This is a common feature, with a 1.5-inch air space between the walls providing insulation and fire resistance.

18-gauge steel

Q: What is special about flammable cabinets?

A: Flammable cabinets are made from flame/ fireproof materials, which significantly reduces any risks to people, property and the environment from the liquids stored inside the cabinets. Flammable cabinets: Safely store flammable liquids, solids and gases. Protect the contents of the cabinet against damage.

Q: What material are fire proof cabinets?

A: Fire Resisting (Insulating) Filing Cabinets (FRFC) is a special type of filing cabinet made of steel with suitable fire resisting material to withstand fire upto 60~240 mins for protecting the documents/files inside this cabinet.

Q: What does OSHA say about flammable cabinets?

A: Not more than 60 gallons of Category 1, 2 and/or 3 flammable liquids or 120 gallons of Category 4 flammable liquids shall be stored in any one storage cabinet. Not more than three such cabinets may be located in a single storage area. Quantities in excess of this shall be stored in an inside storage room.

Q: What are the requirements for a fire cabinet?

A: Construction Requirements: Bottom, top and sides shall be at least 10 gauge sheet steel. Cabinets shall be double-walled with 1 1/2” air space. Joints shall be riveted, welded or made tight by some equally effective means. Doors shall have a 3-point latch.
