Sabah Village Fire Destroys 1,000 Houses

According to Xinhua reports, a fire in a coastal village in Sabah, Malaysia, on April 19, 2026, destroyed about 1,000 houses and affected over 9,000 residents.

The fire broke out at around 1:32 a.m. and spread quickly due to strong winds and closely built houses.

Firefighters faced difficulty due to low tide conditions, which limited access to water. The fire was brought under control by noon.

No casualties were reported.

Authorities have declared the area a disaster zone and are arranging temporary shelters for affected residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
